About Jonathan

Our precious Jonathan David Mercado (named after his Grandpa Jonathan) was born in June of 2012. He surprised the world by coming a month earlier than expected and by having trisomy 21, Down Syndrome. We, his parents (Xavier and Ursula) are so thankful for this sweet blessing from the Lord!

When Jonathan was first born we were a little shocked that the Lord had chosen to give us a baby with down Syndrome. Our expectations for our son had to adjust. We spent some time crying and reading about DS and trying to figure out what the Lord had dropped in our laps. This little bundle wasn't very well bundled. He was really floppy, slip-through-your-arms floppy. But he was pretty healthy. His heart checked out healthy. He nursed well. He wasn't a crier, which was nice but it would have been better for his lungs if he would have been. He was our baby and he needed a little extra care to keep him healthy, a little extra temperature control, a little extra checking on his breathing, just a little extra love. And we knew he was the Lord's plan for us. ...
